We had some great success at the Conference Championships hosted by Washington State and University of Idaho:
Marc Schwartz won the Men’s C crit; the Women’s C time-trial team won the TTT; the Men’s D time-trial team won their TTT as well.
In Men’s B racing, Jordan Louie placed 6th in the road race and Michael Armfield placed 4th in the crit, winning the field sprint.
All three Women’s C riders placed in the top six of the road race: Lisa Doubet placed 2nd, Marjike Smith placed 5th, and Liz Patterson placed 6th.
With this past weekend’s wins, Husky Cycling has won at least one 1st-place each weekend of the race season! The wins have also ranged across all events and categories.
Special recognition goes to Adrian Hegyvary, who will represent Husky Cycling at Collegiate Nationals in Fort Collins, CO during the second weekend of May!

Over the last two weekends, Husky cycling competed in the CWU and MSU omniums. We had great weather, tons of fun, and plenty of success.
In Men’s A racing, Danny Koski-Karell took 3rd place in the Montana road race and the time-trial team took 2nd place in Bozeman.
In Men’s B racing, Jordan Louie and Kevin Driscoll placed in the top-10 in the Ellensburg road race and Tony Azevedo placed 4th in the crit. In Montana, Michael Armfield placed 4th in the crit and 8th in the road race. The time-trial team placed 3rd in Ellensburg.
Women’s C racing saw a 3rd place in the Ellensburg team time trail and Lisa Doubet taking 6th in the road race. The following weekend, Liz Patterson placed 4th in the road race and 5th in the crit; Kim Woods took 7th in the same crit.
Men’s C continued Husky Cycling’s winning ways. Marc Schwatz took first in both the Ellensburg and Montana crits, winning the latter with a spectacular solo break for the final four laps. Marc also showed his strength in the Montana road race, taking 5th.
In the Men’s D crit in Ellensburg, Brandon Bartell took 2nd. Brian Wright took 4th in the Montana road race. The men’s D squad took 1st in the Ellensburg time trail.

Husky Cycling finally found sunny, warm riding in Portland this past weekend and was able to be part of the the largest racer turn-out in the history of our conference, the NWCCC. Husky Cyclig had a large group ourselves; below are some racing highlights:
Grant Boursaw and and Danny Koski-Karell avoided a large crash at the finish, placing 1st and 5th respectively. The Huskies were the only team to place two riders in the top five. In the team time trial, the Men’s A squad finished 4th, eight seconds off of second place and 0.1 seconds off of third. During Sunday morning’s crit, Grant contested the field sprint, finishing 6th overall. As of this weekend, two Huskies, Grant and Adrian, hold the top-two overall places.
In Men’s B racing, an early break was able to stay away, and the Huskies finished in the pack, in 9th, 10th, and 11th place. They regrouped to place a strong 3rd in the TTT and Michael Armfield and Davis Shephard placed 4th and 9th, respectively, in Sunday’s crit.
Women’s C saw two Huskies race for the first time ever. Lisa Doubet figured things out quickly and placed 8th both in the road race and crit. With Liz Patterson, the two placed 4th in the time trial.
The Huskies had two strong finishes in Men’s C racing. Marc Schwartz, just upgraded from the D’s, finished 5th in the road race and Tony Azevedo won the crit. On Sunday, Marc had a nasty run-in with the pavement on the back corner, but he has recovered and plans to race in Ellensburg!

On Saturday we raced in Bellingham, where we celebrated our last weekend of Spring Break with a frigid rain/snow mix and a hilly race course.
The morning was not ideal for the Men’s A time-trial team: Lauren Johnson’s equipment failure did not allow the team to finish with the required three racers. Here’s a photo of the malfunction:

In the afternoon’s wet, cold road race, Grant Boursaw earned 5th and Danny Koski-Karell placed 11th. Grant declared that the race was better than an afternoon at Senor Frog’s in Cancun. At Sunday’s crit in Seward Park, Adrian Hegyvery placed 1st, Grant placed 3rd, and Danny placed 9th. Adrian and Grant now hold the top two overall individual rankings in the conference.
In Men’s B racing, Jordan Louie placed 6th in the road race and 12th in the crit. Michael Armfield placed 6th in Sunday’s crit, in a hotly-contested group sprint finish.
In Women’s C racing, Kim Wood placed 9th in the road race. Kim and Marjike Smith finished 3rd in the team time trail.
In Men’s D racing, Marc Schwartz placed 8th in the road race and Brian Wright placed 12th. Marc dropped the hammer on Sunday, however, winning the crit. Teammates Brian and Mike Barre placed 4th and 10th, respectively. On Saturday morning, they won the Men’s D team time trial.

The racing season kicked off this past weekend with the UO/OSU Omnium in Eugene and Corvallis. Both the weather and racing provided an exciting start to the season.
In the Men’s A road race, Adrian Hegyvery took 1st on a solo attack and teammates Grant Boursaw and Danny Koski-Karell followed the pack during the chase, finishing 9th and 14th, respectively. Davis Shepard then joined them for the team time trail, where they took 2nd. At Sunday’s crit, Adrian finished 4th and Grant finished 9th. The overall points earned by the Men’s A riders have put the University of Washington in 1st place in our conference.
The Men’s B time trial team took 3rd and the Men’s D team trial team won by nearly two minutes.
Kimberly Wood, in her first road race ever, placed a strong 12th in the Women’s C road race.
In the Men’s C road race, Ben Dulken attacked at the final hill and managed to hold off a counter-attack for over a mile to claim 1st place. Teammates Zack Keeler and Tony Azevedo placed 6th and 9th, respectively.
Full results can be found here. A strong start for Husky Cycling, but there is plenty of more racing to come!
