Weekend Team Rides
Hey everyone, we’ll be having our first team ride this weekend (Sept. 29 & 30).
Here is some general information and a few nuggets of wisdom from an email Dave sent out yesterday:
Our team rides will start this Saturday and Sunday at 10 am. Each ride will meet at the North entrance to the HUB. On each day we’ll take a route that has several options for length. We’ll have options if you feel like a shorter ride (~15-20 miles) and we’ll also have people continuing along the full route (~40-50 miles). The pace of these rides will be very relaxed. We’ll institute a “no drop” policy where there won’t be any attacks or accelerations along the way. The routes are relatively flat with no significant hills. These first few rides are intended as a way of meeting people and getting to know how our club functions while you’re on your bike.
Don’t feel limited by your level of fitness - it’s the off-season! More formally, our main goal is to introduce people (of many different athletic abilities) to the sport of cycling and foster their growth at a competitive level if they so wish.
Anyone can show up (UW students/faculty/staff) to ride but you MUST HAVE A HELMET. If you show up without a helmet, we cannot let you ride with us. I also highly recommend clipless pedals if you have them as well as wearing bike shorts. You do not want to find out why we wear our über sexy purple Euro spandex the hard way after 50 miles.
