Husky Cycling is the official cycling team at the University of Washington. We accept all students, staff, faculty and alumni regardless of riding experience or ability to be members of Husky Cycling. To be eligible for collegiate racing you must have full-time student status. Traditionally the team has put an emphasis on road racing, but we also have many riders active in track, mountain, and cyclocross racing.
---Road---
The Husky Cycling Team is one of the strongest teams in the country on the road. Preparation for the spring road season begins in October with 'Meet the Team' rides where veteran riders welcome to new riders to the team and basic pack riding skills are taught to new riders. Training then ramps up from November through March as riders train together through the winter to hit the race season in form. For most riders riders, this means attending team rides on the weekends in order to train and bond with teammates in preparation for their first race. For some veteran riders, it means training seven days a week, often before dawn or in between classes in order to reach their highest racing potential. Riders of all ability will have the opportunity to not only attend the usual weekend team rides, but also weekday rides focusing on specific skill sets, strength training sessions, and training camps. In March, a seven weekend long collegiate road racing season begins. There are categories to suit all abilities, so racing is as welcoming to beginners as it is to riders with many years of experience. After seven weeks of racing, travelling, and comraderie, our top riders attend Collegiate Road Nationals, while others attend local non-collegiate racing events which are available for the rest of the racing season, which ends in September.
---Track---
Many of our road riders transition to the track after the collegiate road season is over. Track racing takes place at the Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond, WA, and the season runs from May through August. As with road racing, there are categories to suit all abilities, and Huskies are represented in both Men's and Women's events in almost all categories from Category 5 (beginner) to Category 1 (Elite). Our top track riders attend Collegiate Track Nationals, which take place at the end of the Track cycling season in September.
---Cyclocross---
Cyclocross racing, a form of racing that combines road biking, mountain biking, and running over barriers, takes place in the Fall. For some riders this means trying to extend the already long road and track season which began in March all the way through December. For others, it means beginning training in the Summer specifically for the cyclocross season in order to hit the Fall races in top form. Huskies attend the Seattle Cyclocross Series races which run from September through November, and select riders head to Collegiate Cyclocross Nationals in December.
---Mountain---
Mountain Biking season takes place during the Summer, with collegiate events taking place towards the end of the season during August and September. As with track and cyclocross, many of our road riders finish off their season by switching to the mountain bike and preparing for Collegiate Mountain Bike Regionals in September.
